ADB commences loan distribution for the KP Cities Improvement Project

News sources said on August 24 that the Asia Development Bank (ADB) has begun giving the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government the loan money for the Cities Improvement Project. The loan will be used to make sure that all of the province’s major cities have clean water, sanitation services, and basic facilities.

Reports say that after getting money from ADB, the KP government has given PKR 240 million to the project. As part of the deal, ADB will offer a USD 1 billion loan for the two-phase project to improve the city. This is the largest loan in the history of the province. In the first step, money will be used to provide basic services in Peshawar, Mardan, Abbottabad, Swat, and Kohat, which are all big cities. In the second phase, these services would be improved even more in Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, and Peshawar.

The ADB will also give money to make the cities liveable by international standards. They will do this by providing clean drinking water, improving drainage systems, building water treatment plants to make drainage water usable, setting up places to dump trash, and building public parks.
