CDA requests GHQ’s assistance to avert urban flooding in the capital. News sources say that on Wednesday, July 13, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) asked the army’s Engineer-in-Chief (E-in-C) to do a hydrological survey of Islamabad with ways to prevent flooding in cities. Zones 2, 3, 4, and 5 will be the places where the hydrological survey will be done.

Reports say that the letter was sent to the E-in-C of the General Head Quarters (GHQ) because of the growing number of flooding incidents in the city. The CDA has also asked the authority to put together a report with suggestions for how to deal with the causes and effects of flooding in cities. Also, the CDA has asked the power to devise a plan for managing rain during the height of the monsoon season to limit the damage caused by clouds bursting. After the report is turned in, the CDA engineering department will use the suggestions to better manage the town’s infrastructure and build it up based on the most recent information and survey.

After the flooding and cloud bursts of last year, the CDA hired E-in-C to do a hydrological assessment of Sector E-11. The events caused a lot of damage to lives and property. The CDA said that the flooding happened because people moved into and blocked natural storm drains in the area.
