CDA will realign Margalla Road to preserve the old graveyards

CDA will realign Margalla Road to preserve the old graveyards. On May 29, news sources said that the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to move a 100-foot section of Margalla Road to protect a graveyard that is over 100 years old and close to Shah Allah Ditta. The new location will be south of the graveyard, close to sector D-13.

The CDA engineering wing reportedly looked at three ways to protect the graveyard: building a flyover, an underpass, or moving the road. The authority, on the other hand, chose the less expensive realignment instead. The Development and Working Party of the CDA will give the final OK to the realignment.

After the project is aligned, it will be done in August or September of this year. According to the authority’s plan, the Margalla Road project will be finished in three stages. Phase I construction is already 70 percent done.

In the first part of the project, the CDA will build a section of the road between G.T. Road and D-12. Khayaban-i-Iqbal will be connected to 11th Avenue by building an interchange and a small section of 11th Avenue.

In phase 2, an 8-km-long Bhara Kahu Bypass will be built from Murree Road near Quaid-i-Azam University to Satra Meel. It will run from Murree Road to Satra Meel. During phase 3, a road will be made that will link Murree Road to the Bhara Kahu Bypass.

The 33-kilometre Margalla Road project is part of Islamabad’s Master Plan since 1969. Sources at the CDA say that work on Phase 2 of the project has not yet begun. It’s important to note that the project was given to the Frontier Works Organization (FWO) last year under Section 42(f) of the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA), which lets government-owned companies do business with other government-owned companies. CDA will realign Margalla Road to preserve the old graveyards.
