These statements were made by UN Secretary-General António Guterres at the conclusion of a three-day trip to areas of the nation impacted by floods. In order to free countries like Pakistan from the debt repayment cycle and enable investment in climate resilience and sustainable infrastructure, he urged international financial institutions to create new mechanisms. According to him, rich nations must take the initiative to help developing nations like Pakistan that are harmed by the west’s rising emissions. He urged world leaders and financial organizations to develop a more reliable debt exchange mechanism and lower the cost of reconstruction in Pakistan’s environmentally devasted regions. According to him, international organizations must work toward a future that is more environmentally friendly and emphasizes green energy.

Guterres spoke with important civil-military officials on his visit to Pakistan to examine the damage, who provided him with an update on the situation. Informing him of the infrastructure and agricultural losses that, if not rectified, may lead to mass hunger, Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif did so at the time.
