At a meeting involving the Civil Aviation Authority, the Gwadar Development Authority, and the China Overseas Port Holding Company (COPHC), the decision was made for Gwadar International Airport to become environmentally friendly. According to the specifics, the first phase of the initiative will involve the planting of trees along the entrance and exit roadways of the NGIA, a distance of over 3 kilometers
In the second phase, a variety of tree species will be planted in designated areas of the airport’s expansive 4,300-acre vicinity in order to enhance the verdant ecosystem. To address the environmental challenges posed by Gwadar’s climate and soil salinity, tropical economic tree species will be meticulously chosen. The adaptability of these species to high temperatures, salinity, gusts, sand, and drought is well-known.
To ensure the success of this green initiative, the Civil Aviation Authority intends to source the majority of the plants from the Belt and Road Engineering Research Centre for Tropical Arid Non-Wood Forest’s Plant Tissue Culture Lab and Green House. Greening the Gwadar International Airport is a significant step towards sustainable development, in line with global initiatives for a sustainable future.
