ECNEC authorises projects ML-1 and KCR

The Main Line (ML-1) of the China-Pakistan-Economic-Corridor (CPEC) has been approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) in Islamabad. The project is expected to cost USD 9.85 billion. This was reported in the national dailies on November 1.

The news source said that the ECNEC looked at and approved the modified PC-1 from the Ministry of Railways to improve the existing ML-1 project. Details show that the project will begin in Karachi, go through Kotri/Hyderabad, Multan, Rohtan, Lahore, Rawalpindi, and end in Peshawar.

The Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) project was also approved at the ECNEC meeting. It will cost PKR 292,388 million, with PKR 263,149 million coming from outside the country. Under this project, a 44-kilometer-long track will be built, starting at Drig Road. The dedicated train track will go through the Federal B area, North Nazimabad, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Liaquatabad, Lyari, and SITE. The ECNEC also approved the Shounter Hydropower project in the Neelum district, which will produce 48 megawatts (MW).
