KP Governor urges parties to sign economy charter for success

Tuesday in PESHAWAR, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Haji Ghulam Ali urged all political parties to sign an economic charter in an effort to strengthen the country’s economy.

In light of the devastation of public and private property by Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf supporters on the 9th and 10th of May, he stated that it was time for politicians to sign an economic charter to prevent future disruptions to trade and commerce.

During a ceremony conducted at the Governor’s House to present a cheque for Rs10 million to the Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) for the construction of its office in Peshawar, he made these remarks to the media.

Also present were provincial ministers, advisers to the caretaker prime minister, and prominent industrialists.

Ghulam Ali remarked, “Political differences are the beauty of democracy, but they should not be taken to the level of animosity and protests that disregard public and private property.”

“A strong charter of democracy signed by all political parties and ensuring consistency in economic activities and policies can attract foreign investment in the country,” he opined.

The governor of KP stated that he had discussed the issue with former president Asif Ali Zardari.

Ghulam Ali applauded the government’s decision to begin bartering with Iran, Afghanistan, and Russia. “The decision will have a very positive impact on the country’s economy,” he said, adding that efforts were ongoing to include more nations in this age-old business practise.

Ghulam Ali opined that the implementation of a business-to-business barter trade system was an extremely opportune and prudent decision, given the country’s severe dollar shortage.

In response to a query regarding payment of dues to TransPeshawar, the operator of BRT buses, Mr. Ali stated that approximately fifty percent of payment had been made.

He stated that the FPCCI office would function as a hub for trade and investment promotion in the region. The FPCCI office will be constructed jointly by the government and the business community.
