NHA will dualize the route from Jari Kas junction to Haripur. News sources said on May 28 that the National Highway Authority (NHA) has decided to make National Highway 35 (Hassanabdal-Khunjrab) (N-35) a two-lane road from Jari Kas Interchange to Haripur City. The project will fix the problem of traffic jams and the slow movement of trailers carrying goods in the area.

NHA sources say that the Divisional Development Working Party (DDWP) is now reviewing Project Concept-II (PC-II) for a feasibility study and detailed design for dualization and rehabilitation of the existing carriageway from Hassanabdal to Mansehra (N-35). Once the plan is accepted, a consultant will be hired to do a five- to six-month feasibility study.

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) and the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) will be asked to approve the final feasibility study and the PC-1. After getting approval from each forum, the project procurement and bidding process will start.

It’s important to know that N-35 is also a part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and the Karakoram Highway. Through the Khunjerab pass, it is an important link between China and Pakistan.
