The CDA’s Planning Wing has contacted the Economic Affairs Division in an effort to secure funding for the execution of this project from international donors such as the Asian Development Bank and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The Planning Wing has drafted a preliminary concept paper, but senior officers have emphasized the need to hire a consultant to conduct a comprehensive feasibility study.

In addition, the preliminary plans have identified four potential LRT routes. These itineraries consist of:

A 30.50-kilometer segment along the Islamabad Motorway and Faisal Avenue from Rawat to the Faisal Mosque.
A 13.7-kilometer route via Srinagar Highway from N5 (G.T. Road) to Pakistan Monument.
A route of 27.5 kilometers from Rawat (T-Chowk) to 26 No Stop on G.T. Road A route of 10.4 kilometers from Pirwadhai to Faizabad via the IJP road

In recent years, main roads in the city have experienced significant peak-hour traffic congestion, so the CDA’s implementation of LRT in Islamabad is a necessary measure to alleviate this problem. In addition to being a cost-effective option, the LRT also reduces travel time.
