CDWP designates ECNEC to construct KCR flyovers. The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) proposed that the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) review the Karachi Circular Railway project valued at Rs 20.17 billion.

The CDWP convened here under the chairmanship of Deputy Chairman Planning Commission Mohammad Jehanzeb Khan to discuss social sector development initiatives.

Senior officials from the Planning Commission, Federal ministries, divisions, and representatives from provincial governments attended the meeting via video conference. CDWP designates ECNEC to construct KCR flyovers

The committee heard a presentation on a transportation and communication project titled “Construction of Infrastructure (flyover, underpass structure) to eliminate level crossings on the loop part of the Karachi Circular Railways.”

The planned structures will contribute to the elimination of 22 level crossings along the KCR loop between Drigh Road and Karachi City Station, making it a more reliable method of public transport. CDWP designates ECNEC to construct KCR flyovers

The deputy chairman of the planning commission urged all responsible officials to ensure they completed the projects on schedule since they are critical to Karachi’s socioeconomic well-being.

KCR initiative

Pakistan Railways expects to construct the Karachi Circular Railway project in three phases. The KCR project covered 43.13 kilometers, including 14.95 kilometers on the ground and 28.18 kilometers raised. It would have 24 stations and a daily ridership of around 550,000.

The second phase will see trains operate on a seven-kilometer route between Orangi and Gilani stations. In contrast, the third phase will notice trains run on a nine-kilometer stretch between Gilani and Drigh Colony stations. CDWP designates ECNEC to construct KCR flyovers
