Chairman WAPDA expects the Mohmand Dam to be completed by 2026

Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) Chairman Engineer Lt Gen Sajjad Ghani (retired) stated on January 26 that the Mohmand Dam project will be completed by 2026, according to news sources.

During a visit to the dam construction site, the chairman revealed this information. He stated that work is currently taking place at 11 project sites, with more sites set to open soon. He also stated that the recent floods in the area had caused a delay in the project, and that work had been halted to address the water-related issues. However, development work has now resumed at full capacity, with the project expected to be completed within the timeframe set.

It is worth noting that the Mohmand Dam hydropower project will store 1.2 billion cubic meters of water.

It is worth noting that the Mohmand Dam hydropower project will store 1.2 million acre-feet (MAF) of water and will contribute 2.86 billion units of low-cost and environmentally friendly hydel electricity to the national grid each year.

Furthermore, it is expected to provide 300 million gallons of water per day for Peshawar’s drinking needs. The project will also irrigate 18,237 acres of new land in Mohmand and Charsadda, generating Rs 51.6 billion in socioeconomic benefits.
