The plan to start three new housing schemes was approved at the 86th board meeting of the Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency (PHATA). It was said that Al-Rasheed Garden in Gujranwala, Campbellpur Greens in Attock, and Al-Noor Garden Residencia in Sangla Hill will be built so that people can live in nice, affordable places.

A monitoring committee was also set up to keep track of how the housing plans were going. It was said that 20% of all housing projects will be set aside for the Naya Pakistan Housing Programme (NPHP). Housing Minister Iqbal told the builders to speed up their work on housing projects and make sure they were of the highest quality. He went on to say that the NPHP was the government’s top priority and that the goal was to finish as many housing projects as possible as quickly as possible.

The 500-year-old Pharwala Fort is in ruins now

RAWALPINDI: The 500-year-old Pharwala Fort in Kahuta tehsil of Rawalpindi, which was once thought to be the most impregnable fort because of its high ridges and deep ravines, is now in ruins because it hasn’t been taken care of.

The national heritage fort’s defence wall and five of its six entrance gates are no longer there. The 450-acre fort is a very important part of the history of the subcontinent. People in the area were also upset that the historical heritage was being destroyed. Tombs on the grounds of the 16th-century fort are also in bad shape.

The Pharwala Fort is in Kahuta Aliot, which is only 40 kilometres from Rawalpindi. It is a treasure that most people in Rawalpindi and Islamabad have forgotten about.

In the past, the Ghakhar empire ruled the area where the Phirwala Fort is now. Its borders went from Kallar Kahar, Jhelum, and Kallar Syedan to Dudyal Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Rawalpindi to Attock, and Hazara to Kohistan.

People thought of the fort as the defence headquarters, and it could hold 500 soldiers, 50 elephants, and 100 horses. Tradition says that in 1515, the Mughal emperor Babur took over the fort, which was thought to be the stronghold of the Gakhar clan.

On one side of the fort is the Himalayan mountain range. On the other side is the Sawan River.

A local man named Hafeet Ghakhar said that maintaining the fort is unlikely because no department has built a separate road to get to the fort from Aliot. This is why the fort has become a ghost house. “Even if tourists wanted to visit the fort, there is no road to get here. The only way to get here is on foot through difficult mountain paths,” he said, adding that the fort has fallen apart on the inside and the outside, and the walls that protected it are gone.

He said that the crumbling of the fort’s defence walls is making it harder and harder to find signs of the fort. The compound used to be where horses and elephants were kept, but now buffaloes and goats live there.

Several houses that are close to the fort have built on its land. The main gate, which was used for elephants and horses, is still there, but the other five gates have been completely destroyed.

Locals say that because the fort is so important to history, they have sent several letters to the department of archaeology asking them to make it a national heritage site, but they haven’t heard back. Guard rooms from the 15th century can still be seen at the Pharwala Fort.

On the grounds of the fort, there are also 10 to 15 graves that are thought to belong to the Sultans of Ghakhas at the time. Several attempts were made to get the view of the Punjab Archaeology Department on why Pharwala Fort was in such bad shape, but no one was willing to say what they thought.

CDA and wildlife board at odds over Islamabad hiking trail

CDA and wildlife board at odds over Islamabad hiking trail

ISLAMABAD: After opening Trail 7, the newly-appointed head of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) is now in the middle of a controversy because the Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB) says that the trail belongs to the board and that the CDA head didn’t have the right to open it.

On Wednesday morning, CDA Chairman retired Capt. Mohammad Usman Younis opened the trail, which goes from sector C-12 to Kanthla village. It was his first day on the job.

But it seems that CDA officials did not tell him what was going on with Margalla Hills. A sign at the trail says that it was built by the CDA’s environment branch.

But sources say that IWMB Chairperson Rina Saeed Khan wrote a letter to the chairman saying, “It seems that your good self was not told about the legal status of Margalla Hills National Park and trail no. 7.” Unfortunately, the inauguration is likely to have legal repercussions, and anyone who was there can be charged with contempt of court.

IWMB isn’t sure why the CDA chairman is opening the site.

The letter also says that the trail is inside the Margalla Hills National Park (MHNP) and that the IWMB is in charge of the MHNP because of the Islamabad Wildlife (Protection, Preservation, Conservation, and Management) Ordinance of 1979 and the rulings of the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

It also said that the IHC’s ruling in a case called “Prof. Zahid Baig Mirga vs. CDA” says, among other things, that the federal government made the Margalla Hills part of the national park by issuing a notice on April 28, 1980, using the power it had under Section 21 of the Wildlife Ordinance of 1979.

The letter said that under the Wildlife Ordinance of 1979, only the board has the power to allow such activities (hiking trails).

Dawn was told by Ms. Saeed that the board’s spokesperson would give more information about this.

Later, the spokesperson, Umar Bilal, talked to Dawn and confirmed that the letter had been written by the IWMB chairperson. He also said that both IWMB and CDA officials had built the trail, but that the CDA had opened it early on Wednesday morning without telling the board or keeping them in the loop.

He said that the law says that IWMB is responsible for taking care of Margalla Hills National Park. So, we wrote a letter to CDA to let them know how we felt,” he said.

When asked, a CDA officer said that the government organisation had not broken any rules while building Trail 7. The officer also said that the CDA’s legal department was working on a proper response to the IWMB letter.

When asked for official comments, Syed Asif Raza, who works for the CDA’s Environment Wing, said that this facility was built in line with Section 21 of the Wildlife Act of 1979.

“The facility is used by a large part of the public, especially families, and the public as a whole likes it. He said, “These trails actually meet the main goals of education and recreation that the Act of 1979 was made for.”
