Swat: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister (CM) Mehmood Khan said on Sunday, August 28, that houses and businesses will not do construction along riverbanks. This was reported by news sources.

He said this while he was visiting areas hit by floods in Swat, Kalam, Mingora, and Matta. He also said that the government will do a survey to figure out how much damage rain has caused.

He also said that the damage caused by the floods is the worst in the history of the province, with many people having to move. He also said that the provincial government will ask the federal government for help with repairs and money. With the money, roads will be built and communities will be fixed up.

CDA urges societies against submitting building plans late

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) in Islamabad has told all private societies not to wait too long to submit building plans for approval so that they can get a completion certificate. This was reported by news sources on August 30.

The CDA Building Control Directorate has told societies that if they don’t act quickly, they will be fined and punished. Nasir Jameel Butt, the director of Building Control for the North, told the media that the authority will soon start a crackdown on buildings that haven’t gotten official approvals and completion certificates (permission to occupy) from the CDA within three months of the end of the initial construction period. He also said that the CDA plans to get the fine and costs of approval back from societies that haven’t given the CDA their records.

It’s important to know that the CDA has changed the way it approves projects and set up two separate directorates to oversee construction in the city. The new directorates would be in charge of commercial and residential building laws and give buildings and houses completion certificates. According to the rules, the authority can fine homes up to PKR 5,000 per month and businesses up to PKR 10,000 per month if they don’t get approval on time.

The CDA is working hard to finish the Bhara Kahu Bypass on time

News sources said on August 29 that the Capital Development Authority (CDA) is doing everything it can to finish the Bhara Kahu Bypass project as soon as possible. Capt. (ret.) Mohammad Usman, who is the chairman of the CDA, has put together special teams to keep an eye on the project and get it done quickly.

The chairman met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who told the CDA administration to do everything they can to finish the project in the next four months. The chairman told the prime minister that the government had started a survey of the route’s topography, which would be done in the next few days. After the survey is done, the CDA will finish the engineering design for the bypass before finalising Project Concept-I. (PC-I).

A spokesperson for the CDA told the media that PM Shehbaz Sharif is in charge of the project himself. The authority has already teamed up with the Frontier Work Organisation (FWO), and construction is set to start in the second week of September.

It’s important to know that the PKR 5 billion project is one of the city’s most important projects to improve road infrastructure. According to its PC-I, the bypass would be five kilometres long, with a one-kilometer-long elevated road (flyover) and two interchanges, one at the beginning and one at the end.

The route will start at the Quaid-i-Azam University stop on Murree Road, go along Kayani Road, and end near the Jugi stop on Murree Road. After that, it will have a flyover that is one kilometre long and ends at the end of Bhara Kahu.

Omani firm to invest in Jacobabad-Gwadar railway

Islamabad: News sources say that Anvwar Asian Investments (AAI), a company based in Oman, wants to help pay for the 1,087-kilometer railway line that will connect Gwadar and Jacobabad. The company has offered to invest USD 2.3 billion, starting with an investment of USD 500 million.

Reports say that AAI officials met with officials from the Board of Investment (BoI) last month to talk about the project’s viability. The Omani business said they would start building the first high-speed rail link between Gwadar and Jacobabad as soon as possible. This will be the first project in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor to build a rail link (CPEC).

A Singaporean company called Pathfinder has also said it wants to invest $5 billion in building a high-speed rail line between Gwadar and Hub (Baluchistan). The final investment choice, though, will be made by the government of Pakistan.

Pakistan and China are also talking about how to build the Railway Main Line-1 (ML-1) project, which is also important to know. The project has been put at the top of the agenda for the next meeting of the Joint Coordination Committee (JCC).

Punjab to engage Rawalpindi Ring Road consultants

Rawalpindi: On August 28, news sources said that the government of Punjab will hire consultants to find the best routes for the Rawalpindi Ring Road (RRR) and set up an economic corridor along it.

The decision was made at a meeting of the Consultant Selection Committee (CSC) for mega projects. Rawalpindi Commissioner Noorul Amin Mengal was in charge of the meeting.

The committee decided that a firm would be chosen to study the project’s feasibility within 45 days, since the consultations for the two-phase project are expected to take 150 days. The following jobs will be done by the consulting firms:

The hired firm would work on the project in two stages. Phase-I would figure out the best path for the economic corridor and take 60 days to finish. Phase-II would plan for land use along the Ring Road’s third-party certified alignment and take 90 days to finish.

The budget for the whole project is PKR 90 million, of which PKR 30 million is set aside for the first phase and PKR 60 million is set aside for the second.

The company that was hired will choose a good route that makes it easy to get to and connect the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

According to the Project Concept-1 (PC-1), the proposed route will include things like industrial units, education and health zones, recreation areas, central business districts, theme parks, high-rise building zones, and the moving and setting up of commercial markets and truck/bus terminals.

It’s important to know that after PM Shehbaz Sharif’s trip to the UAE, the government has chosen five important projects for foreign investment. Among these projects are the Parco coastal refinery Phase-I oil import terminal, the Kharian-Rawalpindi Motorway, the Rawalpindi Ring Road, the Karachi Circular Railway, and the Thar Block-II railway network link.
