Islamabad International Airport will be managed privately

News sources said on September 26 that the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has decided to hire a private company to run and take care of Islamabad International Airport.

The decision was made because there had been a shortage of 100 workers for the past two years. The authorities were asked to fix the labour shortage, which was causing health problems. After the decision is made, the IIA will start the formal process of hiring a company to do the cleaning and maintenance work. The company will be in charge of its own staff, and their contracts will be renewed regularly if they do a good job. Since there have been no new hires and the policy has changed to let passengers bring visitors, problems with cleanliness have started to show up. It is thought that hiring a maintenance company will solve the problem.

The official statement also said that the projects that are already in progress will be sped up and finished by the deadline. These projects include the Dadocha Dam, the Chahan Dam Water Supply Scheme, the Leh Expressway, the Ring Road, the Khanpur Dam Water Supply Scheme, and a 123-kilometer Tourism Highway that will connect four mountainous areas of the district.

It was pointed out that the above projects have been stuck for more than a decade, which has caused the estimated costs to go up by 100–200%. Deputy Speaker Wasiq Qayyum Abbasi said that the situation has been told to Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhary Parvaiz Elahi and that meetings are being held with the relevant city departments to get the projects started as soon as possible.

Rawalpindi: On Monday, September 26, the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) said that only the Frontier Works Organization (FWO) and the National Logistic Cell (NLC) will be able to compete for the Kutchery Chowk project, according to news sources.

FBR extends tax deadline amid misunderstanding

Islamabad: News sources said that on Tuesday (September 27), the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) said that it would extend the deadline for taxpayers who were unhappy with tax clause 7E, which has to do with immovable property tax.

The FBR made this announcement in front of the Lahore High Court (LHC) during a hearing about a dispute over the legality of Section 7E (tax on deemed income) of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, which was added by the Finance Act, 2022. In a written response to the LHC, the FBR said that the authority will extend the deadline for taxpayers who are having trouble with this specific paragraph and solve the problem. But the extension won’t be for everyone. For other taxpayers, the deadline will still be September 30.
