CM announces lawyer colonies in all Punjab districts, tehsils

The leading newspaper in Pakistan reported on September 28 that Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Parvez Elahi said that housing colonies for lawyers will be built in all of Punjab’s districts and tehsils.

The CM met with a group of Supreme Court judges led by Senator Barrister Ali Zafar, Imtiaz Rashid Siddiqui, and Abid Zubairi to talk about different legal issues. During the meeting, it was said that free medical care will be given to the lawyers’ families. He also said that the Public Defender Act would be put into place. Under this law, there will be room for up to 1,500 lawyers.

CM Elahi also said that a parking plaza and a service building for the public prosecution department will be built near the Shah Chiragh building. The minister also said that the Punjab Bar Council and hostel buildings would be fixed up.
