SBP is exempt from property taxes in cantonal areas

November 10 news sources reported that the Lahore High Court (LHC) has granted tax exemption status to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) on its immovable properties and assets located in cantonment areas.

The SBP claimed exemption from tax on its assets under Section 99(2)(f) of the Cantonments Act of 1924, according to the province supreme court’s full judgement. Hearing the SBP’s petition for the dismissal of tax notices issued by the Chaklala Cantonment Board, an SBP representative argued that the petitioner was entitled to a tax exemption because it was a corporation and not a commercial entity like the National Bank of Pakistan or any other commercial/scheduled bank or financial institution.

The SBP attorney also asserted that the central bank, by virtue of its powers and functions, was wholly owned by the federal government and performed functions on its behalf, that it was mentioned in the Fourth Schedule, Part I, Federal Legislative List at Item No. 28 of the Constitution, and that these functions were granted to the central bank via an amendment to the act and other applicable laws.

Notably, the SBP is a federal government regulatory organisation that controls commercial DFIs and banks. It possesses a variety of non-transferable assets and properties across the country that are permanent assets of the federal government. By law, the federal government’s properties are exempt from provincial and territorial taxation.

During the first part of the renovation, the government has decided to close the Kalma Chowk Underpass to all traffic for a month.

During construction, people going from Barkat Market to Liberty Market will be able to use one side of Main Boulevard.
The Service Lane will be open to traffic from Firdous Market, Ali Zaib Road, Barkat Market, and Ferozepur Road.
Gaddafi Stadium will be used as a detour for cars going from Model Town to Liberty.
The plan also gives the people of Falcon Society a clear path to follow.

The roads will be closed for a certain amount of time, depending on how far along the construction is. This is to keep travelers from having trouble.

Lahore: The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has decided to update the list of illegal housing schemes in Lahore every week, according to a post on the authority’s official Facebook page. This is done to raise public awareness.

The list will be updated on the LDA’s official website and Facebook page so that the public can learn more. LDA Director General (DG) Aamir Ahmed Khan told the media that the action was taken in response to directives from the Lahore High Court (LHC) and will be put in place to protect people from frauds related to real estate. He said that, according to the LHC rules, LDA has given each registered society a unique QR code with a number so that their transactions can be tracked and the investors’ hard-earned money can be kept safe. DG Khan also said that the authority is following the rules and has written to the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) to stop illegal housing developments from advertising in the city.

 

It’s important to note that the LHC has told the LDA and other housing regulators to take specific steps to stop illegal housing schemes from ripping people off. The Capital Development Authority (CDA) in Islamabad has removed the requirement that family members and heirs get a “No-Objection Certificate” (NOC) from the building control section (BCS). This was reported by news sources on November 10.

Under the new rules for family transfers, the person who wants to move will only have to file an affidavit. If there are any problems, he will have three months to fix them. In a similar way, the NOC validity period has been increased from three months to one year to help the person who is getting the property.

The decisions were made at a meeting last week, which was led by Chairman CDA Captain (Retired) Muhammad Younas. In the next few days, the CDA will send out a formal notice to make the process easier.

Also, the CDA gave more instructions to build a system that would let old houses be sold through the authority instead of through the registry. With the new system, houses in Sectors F-6, F-7, F-8, G-6, and G-7 can be given back to their owners from the CDA without the help of the revenue department. Before, these houses were sold from one person to another through the department of revenue. The people who lived in these houses tried to get them transferred from CDA, but the city government didn’t have a way to do that.

After 15 years, the project in question has finally begun. The LDA has given Project Concept-1 (PC-1) PKR 870,14 million for the whole project. Reports say that the project has already been approved by the LDA’s governing body and that work will start by the end of this year. Under the approved PC-1, the following projects will be done:

  • The road infrastructure development of the housing scheme will cost PKR 260.83 million.
  • The upgrade of the sewage system will cost PKR 140.76 million.
  • The cost of building an overhead water supply tank will be PKR 70.8 million.
  • Two tube wells to get water will cost PKR 45 million.
  • A new system for getting water will cost PKR 20.55 million to build.

Sources say that the LDA will pay for the whole project with its own money and not ask the Punjab government for money.

CDWP approves land acquisition for three solar energy facilities in Punjab

According to news from November 4, the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) in Islamabad has approved three projects to build solar power plants in three districts of Punjab with a total power generation capacity of 2,400 MW.

According to the information that was shared, the CDWP recently met and approved three land acquisition projects in Layyah, Jhang, and Muzaffargarh. After the government of Pakistan decided to put up 10,000 MW of solar power plants all over the country, the authorities decided to put up two 600 MW and one 1,200 MW power plant in the above districts of Punjab.

At the meeting, it was also said that 2,400 MW solar power plants will be built on a total of 7,200 acres, which will cost a total of PKR 6.616 billion. It was made clear that the federal government will pay for the land acquisition, which will be done by the National Transmission & Despatch Company (NTDC). The Alternative Energy Development Board will be in charge of installing the solar power plants. The process of buying land should be done by the end of the current fiscal year. Here are some details about the land that is going to be bought so that solar power plants can be put up in three districts of Punjab:

A 1,200 MW solar power plant will be built on 4,800 acres in Sher Garh, Tehsil Chobara, District Layyah, which will cost PKR 2,658 billion.
With PKR 2.558 billion, 2,400 acres will be bought in Trimmu, District Jhang, so that a 600 MW solar power plant can be built there.
With PKR 1.4 billion, 2,400 acres in the Tehsil Chowk Munda area of the District Muzaffargarh will be bought so that a 600 MW solar power plant can be built there.
