According to reports, the Gulberg Lahore subway was intended to reduce traffic congestion and improve connectivity, while the CBD Punjab Boulevard was intended to stimulate the local economy.

Notably, the construction of the project, which began in November 2022, was executed with exceptional efficiency, and it opened to the public in May 2023. This swift completion was made possible by meticulous planning, innovative construction techniques, and around-the-clock labour, resulting in substantial cost reductions.

The timely delivery not only alleviated long-standing traffic bottlenecks for commuters, but also allowed the Punjab Central Business District Development Authority to save money for future development projects.

In addition, the Kalma Chowk Underpass acquired international recognition as a result of its association with the Blue Road Initiative, a global initiative that promotes sustainable transportation infrastructure. The eco-friendly design of the project, which incorporated green technologies and water management strategies, was praised for reducing its carbon footprint and conserving natural resources. The Blue Road Initiative’s international acclaim enhances the city’s reputation and may attract additional investments, thereby contributing to economic growth and sustainable development.
