ECNEC approves numerous sector-specific development initiatives

On July 11, it was reported that the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) in Islamabad had approved a number of major projects around the country.

Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Ishaq Dar presided over a meeting that discussed crucial economic issues and made decisions on major projects. The Kalashah Kaku Exit to the Multan Road at the Radio Station segment of the Lahore Bypass was one of the projects given the green light. This project will be funded by the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) and has an estimated cost of PKR 34,446.585 million.

Additionally, the ECNEC gave its clearance to the PKR 14,319.18-million ‘Evacuation of Power from 800 MW Mohmand Dam HPP to the National Grid’ project. This project will be funded by the Asian Development Bank and will improve life in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province districts of Nowshera, Peshawar, and Mohmand.

In addition, the ECNEC looked at the “Sindh Solar Energy Project” being carried out by the Sindh Government’s Energy Department. This project, which aims to provide energy security and help Pakistan meet its climate change obligations, will now cost PKR 27,418.13 million.

The ‘Prime Minister’s National Program for Solarization of Agriculture Tube Wells’ was also given the go light by the committee. This three-year initiative would convert 100,000 tube wells into solar PV systems for a total cost of PKR 377,236.275 million, thereby encouraging clean and green energy throughout the provinces of Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Baluchistan.

The ECNEC gave its stamp of approval to the KP government’s “Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Rural Investment & Industrial Support Project.” Costing a total of PKR 110,700,000,000, this project will be carried out in two stages and will focus on the provinces of Bajur, Khyber, Kurram, Mohmand, North Waziristan, Orakzai, South Waziristan, and the aforementioned former FR territories.
