Tarbela Solar Power Project received PKR 56.7 billion from the WB

Tarbela Solar Power Project received PKR 56.7 billion from the WB. The World Bank (WB) has given loans totaling PKR 56.697 billion to install 300 MV Floating Solar Photovoltaic (FPV) in Tarbela Ghazi Hydropower Generation Complex, according to a May 18 article in national newspapers.

Based on the facts, the World Bank will use a soft loan to pay for the solar power project at the Tarbela Ghazi Hydropower Generation Complex. The project will put up 300 MV FPV on two bodies of water: 150 MW at Ghazi Barrage Head Pond and 150 MV at Ghazi Barotha Forebay.

Also, the solar power project will increase peak electricity supply and capacity by showing how solar and hydropower can work together on a large scale. Several problems have been brought up about the proposal. It was suggested that the Independent Power Producers (IPP) model be used for a project to increase the power generation capacity.

WAPDA was also told to put most of its resources toward developing water resources and hydropower. The Board will run the solar power project for the Development of Alternative Energy (AEDB).
