Gwadar: According to a news report that appeared in the national dailies on August 2, the government has chosen to enlarge Gwadar Port by building a breakwater at Jebel-e-Nuh that will cost PKR 42.19 billion.

According to the specifics, a breakwater must be built in order to expand the port because it will create calm berthing conditions for the port’s easternmost berths. The breakwater project’s implementation phase, which was announced to be 10 years long, is anticipated to be finished by 2032.

Additionally, the experts suggested building a breakwater at Jebel-e-Nuh (the tip of Gwadar Headland). The expansion plans were created in accordance with the thorough feasibility assessment conducted by CCCC Consultants. No breakwater of this size has been built in the area, according to the statement. The specifics state that a 1,772 m long breakwater in a north-eastern orientation must be built.

The breakwater project will also fulfil wave limiting parameters that are deemed safe for berthing, cargo operation, and other activities while offering maritime protection against monsoonal swells and waves. It was revealed that in order to accommodate new generation ships, the expansion of Gwadar Port calls for the future building of berths. The goal of the breakwater project is to safeguard the region designated in the Master Plan (2007). It will make it possible to work in a secure environment for hydrographic surveys, cargo handling, mooring, dredging, and navigation.

In order to build and run the Gwadar Port, the government and China Overseas Port Holding Company (COPHC) inked a concession deal through the Gwadar Port Authority (GPA). The Master Plan for the development of the port and related free zones is the main focus of the GPA.

During the same meeting, the CDA also approved a budget of PKR 7.2 billion for the Islamabad Bus Service Project. Under the plans that were approved, the CDA will add eight more bus routes in the city. The contractor added that in addition to creating multi-story, earthquake-resistant structures on both sides, all properties along the road will be turned into businesses. Along the roadway will also be erected industrial zones, modern parks, and picnic areas, in addition to educational institutions. The mentioned tourist highway will run from Pindori Chowk in Kalar Syedan to Lower Topa in Murree, according to Project Concept-1 (PC-1). When finished, the road will be the only “tourism corridor” linking Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), Galiyat, and Azad Kashmir. The highway would connect to five significant thoroughfares from regions including Azad Kashmir, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Great Britain, and others.

The SBP directs banks to resume subsidized home financing

Following the Ministry of Finance meeting, the SBP released a circular informing banks to reduce their spread over the Karachi Interbank Offered Rate so that payments to already-approved cases under the MPMG Scheme may resume (KIBOR). Additionally, SBP recommended candidates to contact SBP and file a complaint at servicedesk.sbp.org.pk if they run into problems with the application process. The central bank said in a series of tweets that it will closely monitor all instances to deal with any problem that might arise.

It’s important to remember that the government stopped funding under MPMG because to rising market policy rates and financial constraints. The funding halt took place from June 1 until August 31. The government is still working to make the loan terms and conditions more sustainable, according to the ministry.
