Housing societies lacking a waste site will be held accountable

RAWALPINDI: It was revealed on Tuesday that Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) director general Liaqat Ali Chatha has directed the RDA’s director general to send show-cause notices to housing societies without a designated dumping site, requesting an explanation of where the trash is disposed of.

In order to enable garbage disposal at the Losar landfill site, the commissioner recommended that the Rawalpindi garbage Management Company (RWMC) sign a contract with the housing societies, of which there are around 74 in the division. Their registrations would be revoked otherwise.

Additionally, he gave the RWMC instructions to locate another landfill where a new transfer station could be built.
