In addition to the beautification campaign, the district administration has taken steps to solve the encroachment problem, which has been going on for decades. This has led to the destruction of more than 400 illegally built shops, electricity poles, and telephone poles in different parts of the city.

Mahmood Khan, the Chief Minister (CM) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), gave the necessary PKR 50 million to Tank’s beautification campaign to pay for a number of projects to improve the city. The goal of the uplift plans is to bring the city of Tank, which has been left behind, up to the same level as other developed districts and cities in the province.

Deputy Commissioner Hameedullah Khattak told the media about the projects and said that all agencies involved have been told to use high-quality building materials and do everything they can to finish the projects on a “war footing.” He also said that the Public Health and Engineering Department had been told to put pipelines on both sides of the city road so that people in the Tank district could get clean water more easily.

As part of these projects to make the city look better, the main road of Tank will be built, solar lights will be put up in the most important parts of the city, and a family park will be set up.

The CDA shall take action against non-biodegradable plastic bags

Islamabad: News sources say that the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to take strong steps to stop people from using plastic bags in the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT).

The action will be taken because of the Environment Protection Act of 1997 and the Prohibition of Non-degradable Plastic Products Regulations of 2013.

In this way, CDA Chairman Captain (r) Muhammad Usman Younis has started a two-pronged plan to stop people from using plastic bags that don’t break down in the ICT. This project is about making people aware of the dangers of this practise and taking away these bags when necessary.

In order to do this, the CDA has told the Director General (DG) Enforcement Wing to run operations in both rural and urban parts of the federal capital to collect non-biodegradable plastic shopping bags and stop people from using them. Also, the management has told everyone to use bags made of natural fibres instead, which are better for the environment.

Before, the CDA ran similar operations and took over 200 kg of shopping bags from different markets and roads in the ICT, including Aabpara Market, markets in different sectors of the G and I series, Khanna Bridge, Bhara Kahu, Kuri Road, Park Road, Tarnol, and Koral.

New Master Plan 2050 Notified by Lahore Development Authority

On December 31, news sources said that the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) had sent out a notice about the new Lahore Master Plan 2050.

The Punjab government has sent out a notice saying that the regional plan for Lahore Division and the master plans for the biggest cities in the division will be added to the new master plan. This includes the newly planned northern area of the district of Sheikhupura, which was made so that the growing population of the district of Lahore could have a place to live.

The plans and policies of other authorities, such as the Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA), Punjab Central Business Districts Development Authority (PCBDA), and Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA), have also been added to the new master plan.

The notice says that the revised plan includes the following suggestions and requirements:

  • The plan calls for a new city center to be built in Gulberg. It also describes the city’s future growth, settlement, and plans.
  • The notification includes a regional plan for the Lahore Division as well as master plans for the biggest cities in the division.
  • 20% of the space in Lahore’s new residential zones and areas will be set aside for open spaces.
  • For new projects, a fee of PKR 100,000 per kanal will be charged to improve the environment.
  • People have suggested a regional ring road, a parallel rail network, and a way to collect rainwater for future housing developments.
  • The new master plan will go into effect on January 1, and it will replace all previous master plans, outline development plans, structure plans, and site development plans. The plan will be reviewed in 2030 and 2040.

It is important to note that Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Parvez Elahi presided over the governing body meeting of the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) on December 21, which approved the plan under the LDA Act 1975 and LDA Master Plan Rules 2014. After Islamabad, the Lahore Master Plan is the first one for any city in Pakistan.

CM Punjab Elahi confers district status to Jampur

Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Chaudhry Parvez Elahi gave Jampur, a tehsil in the Rajanpur district, district status on Friday, December 30. This was reported by news sources.

This will be Punjab’s 42nd district, and it will be the sixth one made in 2022. At a meeting of the cabinet, where many officials were present, it was decided that Jampur would become a district. Elahi said at the time that the government wants to make Jampur the “best district” in Punjab and give thousands of people jobs. He also said that the government will soon open a university in Jampur to give people, especially girls, the chance to go to college.

As part of the government’s plan to make a new province in south Punjab, Jampur has been given district status. This is important because it will help solve people’s problems and make better use of resources in the area. At the moment, people from these districts have to go to Lahore for official business. This costs a lot and adds to the city’s capacity and housing problems.
