Rawalpindi: A new report on the Rawalpindi Ring Road (R3) project says that former commissioner Gulzar Hussain Shah and former Punjab chief secretary Jawwad Rafique Malik should be punished for giving wrong information about the project.

According to the report written by Inquiry Officer Omer Rasul, officers who disagreed with Gulzar Hussain Shah and had to deal with his “shenanigans” should get letters of thanks. Captain M. Anwarul Haq, who had retired, Jahangir Ahmad, Ammara Khan, Ali Annan Qamar, Waseem Ali Tabish, and Dr Farrukh Naveed were some of these officers.

The report also says that Mr Malik could be sued for negligence, lack of oversight, and behavior that isn’t fit for an officer and isn’t good enough for the position of chief secretary (Punjab).

It says that Mr. Malik’s carelessness shows that he was told to keep quiet or that he pretended not to know the rules, regulations, and laws so that Mr. Shah could continue with his bad plans.

It also says that Dr Farrukh Naveed should be put back in charge of the PPP cell because of his technical expertise and considerable contributions to setting up the PPP cell in the Planning and Development Department (Punjab) and his tireless efforts to set up a PPP institutional framework for the planning and implementation of multiple PPP projects in different sectors.

A third-party validation could be done by an independent and trustworthy engineering consulting team to figure out the best route for the Rawalpindi Ring Road Economic Corridor Project, taking all of the past options into account but not being limited to them.

The work to fix up Liaquat Bagh has been ordered in Rawalpindi

Rawalpindi: Noor ul Amin Mengal, Commissioner of Rawalpindi Division, has told the people in charge to fix up the historic Liaquat Bagh in Rawalpindi city.

When the Commissioner went to Liaquat Bagh, he told the director-general of the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) in Rawalpindi, Xenia Humayun, to use all available resources to fix up the historic park and finish the project as soon as possible.

He told the DG PHA to fix the Liaquat Bagh platform with Chakwal stone, repaint the boundary wall, and connect the park to the nearby mosque.

The Commissioner also asked for a plan to improve the look of Liaquat Bagh and for funds to be sent as soon as possible so that the project could be finished in record time.

The DG PHA told the commissioner about the different projects that PHA was working on and promised that the Liaquat Bagh project would be finished as soon as possible.

It’s mandatory to note that the city of Rawalpindi has decided to build a memorial in the Liaquat Bagh, right where former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto was killed 15 years ago.

Even though the project had been approved and the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) had said many times that they would build a monument and a memorial library at the site of the tragedy, they had not done so.
