LHC forbids LDA from initiating numerous road construction projects.

The Lahore High Court has directed the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) not to simultaneously undertake multiple road infrastructure projects in the city, according to February 6 news reports.

During a hearing on the petition for smog and pollution control, the LHC declared that the authority should focus on removing encroachments from nine important roadways that are causing the city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) to decline and the resulting smog. In addition, the court ordered the authority to dismantle illegally built structures and enterprises along roadways and to encourage roof gardening on multistory buildings.

On this occasion, LDA Director General (DG) Amir Ali Ahmad informed the court that the authority is upgrading the major boulevards in Allama Iqbal Town and Johar Town as part of its efforts to improve the city’s environment. Additionally, he pledged to plant five trees for every one lost due to development.

Islamabad anti-encroachment drive against unlawful govt house expansion

A news source said on February 8 that the Ministry of Housing and Works, along with other state organizations, will start a massive anti-encroachment drive to stop the illegal expansion of government-owned homes in different parts of Islamabad.

The Federal Secretary for Housing, Iftikhar Ali Shallwani, was in charge of the meeting. He told the right people to start fighting against encroachment right away. He also told the authorities to put the footpaths back to how they were before.
The news source said that a lot of government houses in F-6, G-6, and G-7 have been changed through illegal expansion. Some government workers have added more floors and made other changes that break the rules of the Capital Development Authority, it was said (CDA).

DG Estate Office Ghulam Sarwar told the officials how the recommendations of the National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee on Housing and Works were being carried out. These recommendations had to do with building more government-owned houses and letting them out to other people. At the meeting, it was said that the Estate Office had sent the final notices to the residents about the extra construction in the courtyards and on the roofs.
