PLDC and PHATA will manage housing developments in Punjab

On Tuesday, September 13, the Punjab government said that the Punjab Land Development Company (PLDC) would be merged into the Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency (PHATA). This was reported by news sources.

It was decided at 90-Shara-e-Quad-e-Azam during a meeting led by Senior Minister of Punjab Mian Aslam Iqbal. He said that the land and resources of PLDC will be used by the government to build cheap homes in the province. He emphasised that the PLDC and PHATA serve the same purpose and that merging the two similar departments would be more efficient and easier to handle. He also said that the merger won’t cause any people to lose their jobs or their investments in projects run by the PLDC. He also asked the right people to come up with a plan for the merger and the business policies of the new department.

It’s important to remember that PLDC was set up in 2010 and given the job of making and keeping low-cost housing programs in Punjab. In 2019, the government set up PHATA as a new organization with the same goals.

RDA should speed up anti-illegal housing initiatives

Rawalpindi: According to a September 12 news story in the national dailies, the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has sped up its fight against illegal housing schemes in the city.

RDA Chairman Tariq Mehmood Murtaza and Director General Muhammad Saif Anwar Jappa have directed the authority to speed up the operation against the illegal housing projects. A spokesperson for the RDA, whose name was not given, said that the organisation had taken down 22 residential buildings that were still being built, nine billboards for four illegal housing schemes, and four site offices on Chak Beli Road.

The Metropolitan Planning and Traffic Engineering (MP&TE) Directorate RDA also said that the housing societies were not following the rules and layout plans that had been approved. The director said that the owners of these housing schemes had been building without No-Objection Certificates (NOCs) or approval of maps, which was against the RDA’s rules.

The director also said that the authority has already told the housing societies to stop advertising and building without permission. Before investing, the RDA has asked people to check the status of the housing schemes.

On September 13, news sources said that the Commerce Ministry asked the Cabinet Committee on Privatization (CCoP) to take the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) plot off the privatisation list.

The TCP is going to use the 15-acre property next to Multan Industrial Estate to build a cold storage facility. The Prime Minister’s Office gave the go-ahead for the plot to be taken off the list (PMO). The CCoP has now asked the TCP to give the committee a full report and a report on whether or not the proposed cold storage facility is possible in the next six months. The committee has also asked that the project be built using the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. The people in charge told the committee that the building will be built with help from the Pakistan Fruits and Vegetable Exporters Association (PFVEA) and other business groups in the Multan area.

It’s important to note that the Privatization Commission reached a deal for the site that was free of all obligations and put it up for sale on September 16, 2020, but no one bid. But the TCP came up with a plan to build a plot for a cold storage facility to help the fruit growers in the area.
